#WorkoftheWeek: Agnes Martin's 'Faraway Love' 1999 💙

In her interviews, poetry and writings, Martin has often equated beauty and love with happiness, as an abstract concept not influenced by or reflective of her own personal life. The title Faraway Love suggests something out of reach, perhaps even unattainable, but which remains a pure state, not tainted by melancholy or longing. ‘The work is about perfection as we are aware of it in our minds but paintings are very far from being perfect – completely removed in fact – as we ourselves are.’ - Agnes Martin
