Did you know there is a type of fox that lives exclusively in California that is threatened with extinction? It is called the San Joaquin Kit Fox and it is a sub species of Kit fox species that live in the Southwest United States. The San Joaquin Kit fox is the smallest fox in the US weighing in at under 5 lbs. They are found living in the grasslands and scrub in the Central Valley of California. The live on a diet of small rodents, birds and insects. Unfortunately, much of their range is being replaced with farmland which is reducing their numbers. They also are often killed by the pesticides the farmers are using. For this animal to see many more tomorrows drastic change needs to happen. Undeveloped land needs to be set aside for these foxes to live. Also, the widespread use of insecticides and rodenticides needs to be curtailed and replaced with alternatives that will not kill these animals. We think making these adjustments is well worth it in order to keep these animals around
