🎯 An important example from Kenneth Noland’s breakthrough ‘Target’ series, ‘Blue (Target)’ from 1960 demonstrates the artist’s mastery of form and color, which he established from the very beginning of his career. In 1958, Noland began creating images featuring concentric rings using his soak-stain technique – a method first employed and made famous by his peer, Helen Frankenthaler. The circle became a signature shape of his innovative work, allowing Noland to explore the visual and emotive effects of color, and experiment with the palette, scale, size, and saturation of his bands. ‘Blue (Target)’ is on offer from the esteemed collection of Blema & H. Arnold Steinberg, which features the most important assemblage of Color Field pictures ever to appear at auction.
