When Mo Ibrahim started a mobile network in 1998, banks were scared of investing in African companies because they thought African governments were corrupt. But Ibrahim saw huge potential.
“Whenever there’s a big gap between perception and reality, there’s a wonderful business opportunity,” he said.
After building his company with equity, Ibrahim sold the business in 2005 for $3.4 billion.
