He’s been out of work for the last 10years. He says that since the Bali bombings and the introduction of large industrial factories people do not want hand made jewellery anymore. It took 4 meetings for me to persuade him to work again, drinking through cups of sugar with a dash of coffee, listening to his stories about Balinese rituals and their celebration of life and particularly him giggling at me over Western customs! “I know we are a strange lot” I said.
