An Amazon executive told employees last month that the company plans to add "additional payment mechanisms" to Amazon Go stores.
Amazon Go stores use cameras and smartphones to detect what you’re buying so you don’t have to wait in line to pay. The stores have been criticized for discriminating against the unbanked.
About 8.4 million U.S. households are unbanked, and may not have access to credit and debit cards or smartphones. More cities and states are passing laws requiring stores to accept cash.
