Our new #CasaVogue issue is out! ‘Italian Views’ by @gailalberthalaban
First of all, they are photos taken in silence: the city can’t be heard, there is only the suspense of those who look and of those who are looked at, more or less aware of eliciting fantasies. Then, they are photographs of ghosts, that seem to be lurking behind their backs, trapped in the old rooms. And finally, of the fragments of decoration visible in the background, illuminated with artfully positioned tungsten lights: red walls and seventeenth-century paintings, women’s portraits and family photos, a matryoshka and a rocking chair, blown glass chandeliers in Venice and the geometric white of the apartments in the Torre Solaria in Milan. “For the projects in the other cities I had needed a lot of preparation, but for Italy no: word spread quickly throughout the neighborhoods, so many people came to tell me of the everyday gestures of those they had been observing for years, and they offered to accompany me to ring the bell and ask permission for the photo.” #GailAlbertHalaban
