‘IL CORPO PARLA’ by @exquisit_m - An article about the collaboration between #MariaGraziaChiuri and #TomasoBinga ➡️ Our April issue on newsstands Friday April 5th.
‘It is a piece from ‘76. The starting point is one of those elementary school alphabets, for A there was an APE, for B the BANDIERA, for C a CANE, for D a DADO, and so on. I replaced those images with ones of my body mimicking the letters.’ More than 40 years later, this appropriation of the alphabet by #TomasoBinga which provocatively expresses and explores through the female form the symbols that are the basis of language, served as the backdrop at the fashion show for the @クリスチャンディオール ready-to-wear fall-winter 2019/20 collection by #MariaGraziaChiuri. With a man pseudonym, that pairs the proper name Tomaso - without the second M or, like women, ‘with one rib less’, in honor of the great Marinetti - with Binga, which is how her childhood friends, who had trouble with diaereses, pronounced her real name. She in fact was born Bianca Pucciarelli in Salerno in 1931, but favored ambiguity and gender ambivalence before it was a thing, to make space for herself in a world dominated by men.
