In South Sudan she was a social worker. “The biggest challenges I hear of,” she says, “are all connected to giving birth.” Three years ago the area containing the Bidibidi settlement was a forest in northwestern Uganda. Now it’s a makeshift home for a quarter million refugees from South Sudan. This story appears in the April 2019 issue of National Geographic magazine.
