Photo by @carltonward | An alligator crosses over a downed tree on a seasonally dry trail among cypress knees in Florida's Fakahatchee Strand. The gator has a large snake-like amphibian called an amphiuma in its mouth. My main goal from this site, though, is a great panther photo. Last year the trail was dry for only three months. Most of the year, the scene looked like the second photo: full of water from rainfall in adjacent cypress swamps and pine woods that slowly drains toward Everglades City and the Gulf of Mexico. I am hoping for a few months of dry conditions this spring to have another chance at a panther here at one of my favorite camera sites. Part of my #pathofthepanther project with @ナショナルジオグラフィック @InsideNatGeo and @FL_WildCorridor. Please follow @carltonward for more surprises from the swamps. #Everglades #gator #swamp #floridawild #keepflwild
