I wish I could march with my young friends, but I stand with you all in spirit. Thank you for standing up for nature. The future will fall on you, but it depends on all of us to change. Now. #Repost @nrdc_org

Today as part of the #YouthClimateStrike, thousands of students in countries around the world left school and hit the streets to demand that adults take action to address climate change. The student-led movement is calling attention to the climate impacts happening now and the threats facing their future. We were honored today to stand beside them as they raised their voices, made their demands clear, and filled us with hope and inspiration. (Photos: @trevorgowan @tejalmankad @christackett )

in NZ (my country) on the same day as these amazing protests we suffered a terrorist attack in Christchurch against beautiful, innocent civilians in two mosques - where they should have felt safe. there’s so much grief and heaviness throughout not just our country but a lot of the rest of the world. i don’t believe in god but that’s not stopping me from praying that this is the first and last attack we see (as it’s suspected the perpetrator is part of a network). if give anything for this not to have happened so no one had to get hurt and all we’d be focusing on was treating our one damn home better

What a beautiful thing to see, kids using their voice and taking action toward something so important and so positive. Usually it should be adults to set the example, but in this case it appears that it is the children who are. Adults should take note and listen to what they have to say. It makes me feel encouraged that there just might be a world so strong, vital and flourishing for generations to come. Keeping fingers crossed.

What a useless strike. Thousands of young people could get together and plant trees or something. Young people are so self-important, thinking running around holding up signs is going to change anything. It's going to change absolutely nothing. It's lazy and pompous.
If you wanna make a difference, go feed a homeless person, go plant some trees, go serve one another. I swear, my generation is so fucking useless.

Exactly. The amount of time and manpower wasted marching is pathetic. If for every march, people actually got together and DID something for the environment, we'd already be way better off. As I already said, young people are just full of themselves and pompous. They're not interested in doing real service, they just want to stand around in a circle-jerk and pretend they are making a difference.

"Awareness" is useless without action. All I see is young people, "Spreading awareness" (about things we all already know), and nobody doing anything further about it. If you wanna change the world, CHANGE IT. Don't hold up signs and expect other people to change it, because it will literally never happen that way. Never.

Run for office, then. You think a march is going to get even ONE government official to consider something they haven't?
And if planting a tree does nothing, holding a sign does less than nothing.
