A while ago in the Canary Islands while I was hypnotized by this serene moonlight on the Atlantic Ocean but my mind was filled with the shocking facts in June 2018 @ナショナルジオグラフィック cover story: Planet or Plastic?
They are the beating heart of our planet and we filled them with plastic. Earth can not handle our “throw away” lifestyle anymore. Five trillion pieces of plastic are already floating in the oceans, mostly come indirectly from waste into rivers. Even most pristine coastlines like this are covered by micro-plastics. Sea life can turn a single plastic bag in to a million microscopic fragments that last from 450 years to forever and we probably eat some of our own plastic in the seafood. Less than 20% of all plastic gets recycled globally. In the US it's barely 10% and in many developing countries with no infrastructure to handle the immense amount of imported plastic they all go to nature eventually.
Start today. Avoid single use plastic bags, bottles and straws. Read more at natgeo.com/plastic
