This is Harlow in my office flipping through the new book “Run the Show like CEO Oprah Winfrey.” Should I be concerned that she‘s angling to take over Mommy Shorts??? Congrats to my friend @carolinenoo, author of the new Work It Girl series illustrated by @sinemerkas! Oprah Winfrey and J.K. Rowling were just released this week. Mazzy and I read the entire Oprah book yesterday (it’s a pretty dense book with full pages of copy and gorgeous handcrafted illustrations) and it was so great to really go in depth into one woman’s story of perseverance and success, after reading so many collections of one page bios. I’m hoping the J.K. Rowling book will inspire her to read Harry Potter! I’ve been begging her to read the Harry Potter series with me for over two years. Enter to win signed copies of both books by telling me who you think should be the next woman featured in the #workitgirlbooks in the comments below! I’ll pick three winners on Friday, which FYI, is International Women’s Day!

These books are awesome @mommyshorts - thank you for sharing! Lay Down the Law Like RBG, Reach the Stars like Sally Ride, Turn Words to Action like Maya Angelou, Cook like Julia Child, and finally, my favorite - Crack the Code like Grace Murray Hopper (particularly because computer engineering/IT is becoming a growing space for girls and young women) - I hope this series continues for a very long time, so brilliant!

I know my third graders are really interested in athletes! I could definitely see Simone Biles, Serena Williams, or any of the other women athletes flying off our classroom library shelf! ❤️ I would also love to see some women business owners/entrepreneurs showcased.

Oh my goodness, so many women to choose from. It’s quite hard but I can say Lady D, Michelle Obama, Malala, Angela Merkel, Marie Curie, Jane Goodall. I will stop myself right there, because I could go on for ages. Amazing job with the books, keep it up! ❤️

Hettie Jones! Jones received acclaim for her memoir, How I Became Hettie Jones. Hettie Cohen, born into a middle-class Jewish family in Queens, chose to cross racial barriers to marry the controversial black poet LeRoi Jones (now Amiri Baraka).

These books look amazing! Definitely ordering copies for my girls. So many great ideas here from everyone. I'd love to see Coco Chanel, Jane Goodall and Misty Copeland.

Jane Goodall! 🦍 or Elizabeth Smith Friedman (so forgotten, yet she changed WWII and was the leading code breaker for the US!)
