#WomensHistoryMonth starts today! The Met's upcoming exhibition focuses on Japan's most celebrated work of literature, "The Tale of Genji," which was written by female author Murasaki Shikibu and introduced some of the most iconic female characters in the history of Japanese literature. The exhibition will pay special attention to the Buddhist reception of the tale—generally known as the world’s first novel—while also giving prominence to Genji’s female readership and important works by female artists. Learn more in "The Tale of Genji: A Japanese Classic Illuminated," opening to the public on Tuesday, March 5. #MetGenji #TaleofGenji #TheMet
