Hi everyone! @scott_kranz here taking over the Eddie Bauer feed for the weekend. I am a photographer and climber and want to share how important the Leave No Trace principles are on winter backcountry adventures. “Plan ahead and prepare" is of utmost importance in winter! The season’s cold temps and unpredictable weather can put a damper on any outing, or worse, if you're not prepared. Before heading into the wilderness in winter, know the particular backcountry zone you’ll be visiting and its terrain. Research the local avalanche conditions (such as @nwacus) and weather forecast. Even better, take a course on avalanche safety or winter backcountry travel. (AIARE 1 is a great place to start!) Small group travel (as opposed to solo) is best, and carry an avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe. These extra preparations can go a long way and ensure your trip is both safe and epic.
