A bonsai thief stole seven trees worth more than $118,000 near Tokyo last month, including a star of the bonsai world: a rare 400-year-old shimapaku tree (pictured above) which was due to be entered in a competition this month. Fuyumi Iimura, the wife of the bonsai master who crafted the trees, likened the experience to “having your limbs lopped off.” She said the couple wants their bonsais to be returned, but if they aren’t she just wants them to be taken care of. “I want whoever took the bonsais to make sure they are watered.
