Get your positive pants on ☀️ One of the most frequently asked questions I’ve had since my operation is “how are you staying so positive?” ? I’m no expert but I can definitely share my own personal experiences so here goes: ➡️ If I am honest, I do think I’m a positive person by nature. I woke up from my surgery and just felt happy and grateful to be alive! ? ➡️ I focus on what I can control. Sure, I can’t control what happened to me but I CAN control how I respond to it. ➡️ Throughout the process I am not dwelling on what my body can’t do and instead on what it can. For example at first I couldn’t walk, so I focused on doing what I could: small leg movements in my hospital bed & lung exercises. ➡️ I know that moaning won’t help. Ultimately, spending time moping or being sad isn’t going to help me recover (brutal, but true ?). So I don’t want to waste what little energy I have on feeling sorry for myself. I want to use it to build my strength! ➡️ I’m seeing my recovery as a project so everyday my actions are working towards supporting it. From eating wholesome foods to doing breath work, pelvic floor exercises, staying hydrated and getting outdoors. I feel like I have a purpose to my actions. Ant and I have made a list of things I want to be able to achieve e.g. cooking a meal for myself or walking 30 minutes. I am focusing on building up to these goals ??‍♀️ ➡️ HOWEVER. Let’s be real. I have cried a handful of times since my surgery, usually when something scary happens such as when I fainted. In those moments I have let myself feel those emotions wholeheartedly. They’re a natural part of the process and suppressing them isn’t a good idea. Don’t be afraid to cry, but then have the strength to pick yourself up and keep going ??
