Hands that Shaped the Nation.

Born between 1950 and 1959, the Merdeka Generation (most of whom are in their 60s today) grew up during the tumultuous 1950s and early 1960s. They witnessed our struggle for self determination, and the events that led to this unexpectedly independent republic.

We are honouring the Merdeka Generation for their hard work and sacrifice, which contributed to building the Singapore of today, and making Merdeka – independence – a success.
