Meeka Atagootak chose to create an Amauti parka, fashioned with a hood that allows women to carry their infants. It’s a style with deep meaning for her: When she was 20, she spent a month sewing an amauti for herself while pregnant with her first child. When it came to her colour palette, Meeka drew inspiration from her connection to nature. “I sew with whites, greens and blues,” she says, adding that they represent earth and water in Inuit culture.
