Sears Holdings has reached a $5 billion deal that will allow Eddie Lampert to keep the company alive. But Lampert and Sears are not out of the woods, yet.

Even if Sears ultimately emerges from bankruptcy, it will need to address the issues that led to its downfall. As a whole, the company hasn’t turned a profit since 2010. The retailer has lost its relevancy with customers. And it’s competing with well capitalized competitors like Walmart and Target -- not to mention Amazon, a company that continues to dominate retail and threatens all chains.
