Hi friends ❤️ I had a moment of total fed-up-f***-this-ness over being smacked anew by the depression stick, and in my frustration I started reading a book called “a mind of your own” by holistic women’s health psychiatrist @kellybroganmd - the book is pretty compelling. She approaches mental health from a very grounded, very practical place, with huge amounts of research behind why antidepressants and other meds *** can be more harmful than helpful, and other physical factors underlying the overwhelming mental health crisis we’re in- which include gut health, thyroid issues and blood sugar mayhem. In the book is a 30 day plan for rebooting your life and getting on a solid road to mental health. It starts with diet. Not diet like eating only carrot sticks, though- our fridge is overflowing with food right now. But no sugar, no caffeine no gluten... yeah, i know. For the first time in I can’t remember, I’m actually going to be in one place for a month, and I figure, ok, why not, right? I’m going to have to learn how to cook stuff I don’t know how to make and I’m going to have to touch meat, which makes me a little squeamish, but if it means steadying my mind and repairing my gut, then it’s well-worth it. This month I’ll be chronicling my experience and we’ll see how it goes. I recorded some more videos about this but not going to clog up the feed with them. Check the stories for more. Wish me luck! #dayone *** note: I was on antidepressants for 8 months last year and i don’t know what i would have done without them. Medication got me out of a dire place, I am not against it at all, and reading back on this I can see that I was a bit cavalier about them being harmful- which is something I am learning about. I’m just trying to explore how I can stabilize my mind in other ways, as medication no longer was ideal for because of the side effects- this is a complex subject, though, and I want you to know that whatever you need to do to keep your mind on your side is your right and I have zero judgement, and a ton of compassion for you. We are all in the same boat. Sending lots of love and sorry if I upset you!
