In @nytopinion | Meet Heather Lee. She's 92 years old. She holds 5 world records for #racewalking. She’s the New South Wales Senior Australian of the Year. And she has big plans for 2019 — namely, breaking her own best times. Heather says she’s always been focused on wellness and fitness, but after her husband died in 1996, “I had a compulsion to walk. The faster I walked, the better I felt.” So in 2011, on the advice of her physiotherapist, she competed in the Australian Masters Games and ended up winning 4 gold medals. “All there’s left now is for me to break my own world records,” she said. Age, she says, “is no barrier to anything, really.” @mattabbottphoto took this photo of Heather racewalking with her trainer Liz de Vries in Richmond, New South Wales, #Australia.
