“I recently came across a documentary about East LA in the 40s and was particularly struck by the beautiful tailoring that all of the young Mexican men wore. The style of suit became nick-named the 'Zoot Suit' and had broad shoulders and full trousers with nipped ankles. They wore these suits as a rebellion to the popular style of that time. Eventually the police made these suits illegal because they felt it was easy to hide weapons etc in the suits. The outlawing of the suits led to the 'Zoot Suit Riots' which was a clash between the police and the Mexican youth. I think this feels particularly applicable to today, as young men are utilizing style and elegance to speak for them. I feel the idea of a uniform that establishes one's identity is both extremely modern and very classic, this is my idea of elegance. #CarlosNazario
