Let me tell you about the legend of Ernie Barry. He was an entertainer of the highest caliber. He could instantly change the mood of any person of any age. Just by breaking out his accordian and his million-dollar attitude Ernie turned an uneventful occasion into a swinging party. At my fortieth, Ernie was a guest and wowed a yard full of our pals with bouncy Italian classics, a few rockers and an original composition of his own called, “Moon Over Brookyn”. Ernie was always a hit. I’ve seen him dazzle kids in pizza parlors, his many fans on the Main Stage at The Feast of Gennaro, and once at a Friars Club Roast, when Ernie accompanied me on the dais as I roasted the great Italian comic Pat Cooper. Ernie never said no to an opportunity to make people happy. Ernie passed away on New Years Day. But I know firsthand that he leaves behind a talented wonderful family. Shout out to the Barbieri clan! Hopefully wherever Ernie is now they enjoy an occasional sing a long of “That’s Amore”. So with no further adieu, a big round of applause for the great Ernie Barry!
