Hi, I’m Christopher Morris, a UNICEF photographer. Today I’m sharing some of my photos and experiences with children caught in conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Masha, 11, lives close to the contact line which divides the opposing sides. In January 2015, her school building was destroyed after it was directly hit by four shells and one tank round. She lives right next to the school with her mum, dad and little brothers.

“I cannot play outside when I want and I can’t go as far as the bus stop where some of my friends still live,” said Masha. “I would like to leave [this town] … because I always hear fighting ... but I like my school so I don’t want to leave.”

Masha remembers sitting in the bathroom for one or two hours during a period of shelling. “We didn’t talk much. Mum was crying. My aunt and uncle were visiting and we were all hiding. I was asking ‘is it over?’ and mum couldn’t say anything.” I’m a parent myself and it’s very disheartening to know parents are trying to raise families in an armed conflict. #ChildrenUnderAttack
