This is a blackfin tuna, which is one of the rare tuna species not on the Greenpeace "red list" when it comes to seafood consumption. Even though considered "small" when compared to a yellowfin or a bluefin tuna, this species only grows to a maximum of 50lbs/40inches. In this case, this tuna had reached sexual maturity and had time to breed before ending up as sashimi.
