I went to Fukushima on 12/11 with Candle June and his awesome “love for Nippon” team. It was an amazing day of singing and dancing with the children and getting to chat with their mothers and hear their stories about life in Fukushima 8 years after the Tsunami and accident. They are so strong and resilient in the face of such a unique and difficult circumstance that got thrust upon them. The more we can go to visit Fukushima and hear their stories in person the more we can understand how to help them. Some families were forced to evacuate, some weren’t, some were given financial compensation, some weren’t compensated at all. Some left for good. Some couldn’t for financial or family reasons. Some who left were bullied in the communities they took refuge in for being from “Fukushima” and 8 years later when things seemed safer they came back only to be shunned for leaving in the first place. The social trauma here is very complex and there is no black and white solution to fix everything. More than anything I felt like it will take a lot of prayer, love and forgiveness and not comparing ourselves to our neighbors to heal this mess. But then.. I think that it’s not just Fukushima that needs this but all of us. ❤️ #prayforfukushima we can’t force change on anyone but we can start by changing ourselves and believing the best in others. ?? #Godhelpus ?❤️
