A new sculpture "Split Stone (7:34)" (2018), just installed at the historic Crypta Balbi in Rome. A digital snapshot of a sunset is translated into the cut surface of a granite boulder. This is done with a process of inlaying pigment into thousands of tiny cavities to emulate the techniques of lithography and dot-matrix printing in permanent sculptural material.

Sze’s "Split Stone (7:34)" opened today at the Crypta Balbi, Museo Nazionale Romano, at Via delle Botteghe Oscure 31, Rome. Her first exhibition at Gagosian Rome remains on view until January 12. Read more via the link in our bio!
