Photo by @simonnorfolkstudio | November 11, 2018, marked a century since the end of the First World War. Over the past couple of years I've been working on a project studying its aftermath. Here stands the Chattri memorial on the outskirts of Brighton on the south coast of England. More than 800,000 Indian soldiers fought in the war, and thousands of wounded were brought to Britain to be treated in makeshift hospitals. Three were established in Brighton. The memorial was built in 1920 at the exact location of funeral pyres used for the cremation of soldiers who died in Brighton as a result of their injuries.
