In honor of #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, we will be highlighting works by contemporary and historical #NativeAmerican artists. Created by a Crow artist, this fringed coat was probably worn by a young boy for special occasions, parades, and community celebrations. The beaded images of deer or elk heads, stars, and abstract floral motifs provide protection. Spiritual power is transmitted through the wavy beaded lines that connect them. The work is currently on view in our exhibition “Art of Native America: The Charles and Valerie Diker Collection.” #ArtofNativeAmerica
