Irohazaka Route(#いろは坂) ties together Nikko(#日光)’s inner city with Chuzenji Temple(#中禅寺) and Okunikko(#奥日光)?

The road has 48 curves in total, and is named after the Iroha-uta, a song used to remember the old Japanese alphabet (which had 48 characters).

From the bottom to the top of the hill is a 440-meter elevation difference, and from the mid-way observatory is a great view of Nikko.

Irohazaka Route is also a famous fall foliage spot in Nikko. The road can get congested, but it can give you an excuse to enjoy the fall leaves for a bit longer!
