?There is a castle in a cave?

As an American, big stone castles are always fun to visit. We don’t have many medieval monuments in our world.

But a castle in a CAVE? Bring it on.
.
This beauty is in Predjama, Slovenia and it’s worth a stop. In truth, I was so behind in getting to the town of Postojna where you buy your tour tickets (hello 6 course lunch), that I missed the window to tour the interior.

But pro tip? If you go in the long hours of early sunset you get the entire place to yourself. My friend @rachelleahcohen and I went around 7pm and found the solitude irresistible. What went from a “let’s just spend 10mins” turned into an hour-long photo shoot of silliness and awe.

Slovenia was one of my big surprise countries this year. I enjoyed it so very much and every day was some new fantastic discovery. If you can swing a visit you won’t be disappointed.
