Photo by @williamalbertallard | In 1990 I had the pleasure of being asked by @ナショナルジオグラフィック magazine to do an essay on minor league baseball. I worked in various parts of the country, photographing mostly what I consider the ""edges"" of the game, not the action. This simple image of a member of the Stockton Ports team based in Stockton, California, raising his bat above his head, stretching his muscular and suntanned arms before taking his place at the plate, is a kind of universal image at least in the wonderful world of baseball, a game I grew up with in the 1950s when it truly was the great American pastime.
