Pleistocene Park, a nature reserve and research station along the Kolyma river in the northeast of Siberia, is also a large-scale scientific experiment created by Russian scientist Sergey Zimov and his son Nikita. The Zimovs believe that by recreating the ecosystem of the Pleistocene era, which was dominated by large mammals and the grasslands they helped maintain, they can slow down permafrost thaw and it's inevitable emission of greenhouse gases.
