Shimano Challenge Series: Meet the Teams Lawson Tilghman: “I started fishing when I was about 8 years old. We bought a house with a lake and it didn’t take me long to fall in love with fishing. I love being outside and never really got into watching TV and playing video games when I was growing up. If it was daylight outside, then I was outside until it got dark. I am dyslexic, so school has always been a challenge for me. However, dyslexia is not a disability. I just learn in a different way and I think that is what has helped me with my fishing career. I am super-creative and love to make my own lures and try to figure out new things that the fish might be interested in. Since I am 17 years old, I think I am in a great position to reach the younger crowd. I work hard to build my social media followers and stay interactive with them. I would like to get better at YouTube videos and editing my drone footage. The High School Fishing World Finals was a great event this year. We had 384 boats, which means over 750 anglers. We finished 1st in Tennessee and 3rd in the world. It was an awesome event! I am currently fishing the FLW Central Costa Division as the youngest professional boater and I hope to finish in the Top 30 at the final tournament in October so that I can go to the championship tournament. My favorite fishing techniques would be power fishing and finesse fishing. I enjoy the challenge of ledge fishing and also learning how to break down and figure out new lakes. One of my favorite mentors has been Mr. Forrest Wood. He is such a cool guy and has been a big encouragement in my professional fishing career. When I am not fishing, which doesn’t happen very often, I do enjoy hunting and anything that you can do outdoors.” Hear more from Lawson during Saturday’s Facebook Live as we kick off the Shimano Challenge Series! #FishShimano @lawsontilghmanfishing
