Photo by @CarltonWard | I love hearing the distinctive call of the barred owl reverberate through Florida forests, reminding me of the wildness and mystery hidden among the trees. I am especially grateful when one of these stealthy hunters reveals itself on a low branch in plain view, as happened here in 2012 as I hiked through Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge during the Florida Wildlife Corridor Expedition -- a 100-day, 1000-mile trek (with support from @insidenatgeo) to raise visibility for the 17-million acre #FloridaWildlifeCorridor and the vision to keep it connected. My current #PathofthePanther project with @ナショナルジオグラフィック focuses on the Corridor through the character of the endangered Florida panther. Through the panther's northward recovery out of the southern Everglades, it is showing us what we need to do to keep the Everglades connected to the rest of America and save wild Florida, for species like this owl, and ourselves.
