Yesterday @reprokhanna and I introduced legislation to give large, profitable corporations a choice: pay workers a living wage, or pay for the public assistance their low-wage workers rely on. While Jeff Bezos of Amazon, the Walton family of Walmart and other billionaire owners of profitable corporations rake in billions, many of their employees must rely on public assistance programs to survive. Yes. The government has a moral responsibility to provide for the vulnerable. But taxpayers should not have to expend huge sums of money subsidizing profitable corporations owned by some of the wealthiest people in the country and the world.
