My guy❤️ He is sitting across from me at the kitchen table right now, eating a peanut butter sandwich, answering emails. We have been through so much in our close to 9 years together; gone so many places, seen a ton of countries, had wild adventures... It’s been an amazing ride. But I get the feeling that at the end of my life, when all is said and done, the moments I’ll remember aren’t the extraordinary and impressive. They’re not going to be the romantic kisses on sailing trips with the wind blowing in our hair, sun about to set. They won’t be the waterfalls, the fireworks, the once in a blue moon jaw-dropping sunsets. They will be moments like this one, right here, right now. Both of us tired from a night of little sleep, taking care of an overtired baby. Him munching on his PB&J. Me, typing away at the computer. Dirty dishes in the sink. Cold coffee in my cup. Baby monitor between us.
The extraordinary lies in the day to day. The boring. The mundane.
The moments I’ll remember are the ones that unfold in the in between. That string together the love and struggles and joy and frustration and beauty that make up our family and our lives.
It’s challenging and easy. It’s perfectly flawed. It holds my whole heart.
It’s home.
