#SpeakingInDance | “I get in the zone,” said the dancer @cristo.braz of performing “Hustle on the sand,” a work by @bellbiba included in @beachsessions_rockaway, Aug. 25-26. “I think of images and of directions and then my body takes over. You kind of let go. It’s a weird state of not really being there, but being there.” Part of a larger series celebrating the power of a group, “Hustle” — featuring 6 performers and music put together by the D.J. Scott Zacharias — references social dances, like the Detroit Hustle, as well as postmodern dance. Previous iterations have been performed in theaters and parks, but this is the first time that the dance, part of “AUNTS @ Rockaway,” will be done on sand. “It’s going to definitely take stronger feet and ankles,” said Biba, who is based in Detroit. The dancers see this section as a kind of unleashing. “When you think about parks and the beaches, those are actually spaces to liberate your body,” the dancer @jkippster (in tank top) told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ writer @giadk. “It’s freedom to have that access to your body.
