Walking inside this World Heritage Site I was lost in time, surrounded by the finest surviving examples of ancient Indian art. Expressive paintings that unlock some of the cultural layers of India. Ajanta Caves are rock-cut Buddhist monuments which date as far as the 2nd century BC. Photographed here is a painting of Padmapāni (holder of the Lotus in Sanskrit), who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas.
