Today is the day! The significance of this film and the bend that it could make on what has normally been the straight and narrow is not lost on me. There is a strong desire for a shift on the big screen to see people that rarely get to showcase their layered human selves. I can’t say that I am surprised by the emotional reactions and write ups everywhere. It all resonates strongly with me. I have been fortunate enough to be involved in projects spanning many cultures and communities that are usually underrepresented on screen. I care about representation across the board and champion the unseen and unheard who can finally have a voice. This movie is one of them. What I can’t get over is how long it took. But we are here. Now. We have an opportunity to make a difference this weekend. Let’s gather up our friends, family, long lost cousins where you kind of know their name but not sure which one of your uncles and aunties they belong to at family gatherings. Let’s do this for that kid who will see themselves as desirable on screen and not just part of some lazy joke that has been recycled over the years. It is long over due. Let’s do it for the ones before us, who have paved the way not to let this opportunity be squandered. Let’s fill up the theaters and have a #GoldOpen #CrazyRichAsians P.S.
