After moving with his family to Giverny in 1883, Claude Monet announced: ‘I’m good for nothing now except painting and gardening’.⠀

He employed six gardeners for his sizeable grounds, cultivating peonies, geraniums, pansies and yellow roses. But his most famous horticultural feat was his lily pond with a Japanese-style bridge, surrounded by willow trees.⠀

Monet would go on to paint his water garden around 250 times.⠀
