Video by @bertiegregory | There’s no doubt that macaroni penguins are horrible to each other. With the exception of their mate and their chick, any other individual in the colony is fair game for a pecking. That said, they showed surprisingly good teamwork in ganging up on this chinstrap penguin. I don’t think this chinstrap will be visiting this rock again the near future. Despite their toughness, macaroni penguins are declining in number. Changing ocean currents and competition for food from commercial fisheries are thought be some of the challenges they face.
