Salmon are beginning to arrive in Bristol Bay, Alaska as they migrate up one of the six main river districts in the region. 52,000,000 Sockeye salmon are expected to arrive over the next six weeks and thousands of commercial fishermen, native subsistence fishermen, and sport fishermen are standing by for the wall of fish to hit. This is among the largest runs of salmon predicted in the past 20 years, a testament to how a well managed fishery can produce a sustainable wild salmon population.
.
I’ll be photographing Bristol Bay life from a fish camp all summer at the mouth of the Kvichak river and posting insta stories and images from the Alaskan bush on my personal IG @arni_coraldo You can view my saved Bristol Bay story on my profile. This is @ktenkley, a setnet fisherwoman at Graveyard Point holding a fresh Sockeye Salmon.
