By creating surreal juxtapositions of religious iconography, science-fiction imagery, and portraiture, Brooklyn artist Chitra Ganesh inscribes feminist and queer narratives onto traditional mythology. In her 2014-15 multi-media site-specific installation, Eyes of Time, Ganesh invokes Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction and rebirth, as a lens through which to explore the fluidity of time and gender. Embedded within her re-envisioned pasts and imagined futures is the understanding that gender and identity are unfixed, subject to the perpetual disintegration, subversion, and metamorphosis that Kali represents. #pride #proudportraiture
