So, about two years ago, I had the pleasure of mentoring a brilliant photographer and designer, Ilana DiMarco, through SVA’s Mentor Program. It was a great experience for both of us, and we spent the week getting together, talking about art and life, going through her photographs, picking our favorites and talking about why they were our favorites. I gave her all the advice I could, and it’s been amazing to see her grow both as a photographer and designer. Ilana’s work has a vulnerability to it, mixed with a kind of intimate soul-bearing view on relationships and the inner and outer world.

Ilana started a clothing brand called DI MARCO that I wanted to give a shout out to, because I really love the designs. They have a high-end minimalist feel to them, and I wouldn’t be surprised seeing these shirts in some of my favorite boutiques. Like her photography, the designs also blur the lines between typical masculine and feminine roles.
