photo by @chien_chi_chang The air was hot and humid in the Burmese former capital of Rangoon (Yangon.) One heavy gray cloud obscured the sun, and others sailed behind. Above each monolithic cloud, it seemed, there was a gigantic bucket of water at tipping point. In an instant, the bucket overflowed over downtown Yangon. The pedestrians and street vendors all reacted reflexively—finding refuge under colorful umbrellas, sheltering their wares, walking carefully around potholes of water in their sandals. While the rain continued to pour, the sun seeped through the clouds. A distant Buddhist chant provided a baseline to the cacophony of merchants, walkers, shoppers and commuters.
