'Volunteering at Tate inspires me as a graphic designer because I’m constantly immersed in art and what’s new. I love having conversations with the visitors and seeing what they think – they keep the tours interesting and keep you on your toes. I always want visitors to leave my tours having learnt something new, even if it’s something very small. These are the moments people take away with them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My favourite spot at Tate Modern at the moment is the Dayanita Singh room in Living Cities on level 4. Her subject matter is something that’s very personal to me because she focuses on photographing India and that’s where my family are from. Usually when you see photos of India it’s all about colour and vibrancy, and that is definitely part of the experience when you go there, but I think her black and white photos speak more deeply. In recent years as my family have passed away, places such as my family home have become more and more empty, so for me there is all the colour and the vibrancy but there’s also a sense of sadness. Dayanita Singh's photographs look how India feels to me. It chimes really clearly with my feelings and with my sense of place in the world. It’s the different perspective that she has on the country that is really interesting to me.’ - Lia Sher-Gill ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A big thank you to Tate's volunteers who give up their time and expertise to visitors from across the globe across our four galleries. Tate wouldn't be the same without you. #VolunteersWeek
