LuriGo Peak (5216m) is above the village of Phortse, Nepal. From town to the summit there is a 1350m in elevation gain. @jimmy_chin @krakauernotwriting @panurusherpa and I climbed the peak in 2005. We were welcomed with clear weather and stellar views. Yesterday @caseydahl (photography 1st image ), @dan.ashwood (blue jacket in 3rd photo) and I scrambled up the peak. Casey and I replicated Jimmy’s shot (on @タイメックス poster in a Sherpa lodge) in the mist. While we didn’t see the range of peaks that form the crown of the world, we noticed the plants and rocks.
LuriGo Peak is an excellent acclimatization option - one hikes / climbs to 5200 m (about the elevation of Everest base camp) on steep meadows and exposed rock. The Phortse climbers installed three sections of cable (via feratta style) and built a sweet tent platform below the summit.
