?? Connaissez-vous l'impressionnant tombeau de Philippe Pot ?

Huit pleurants voilés de noir portent une dalle de pierre sur laquelle repose un gisant en armure de chevalier. Grandeur nature, ce tombeau du XVe siècle donne l’impression d’assister à un cortège funéraire.
Cette œuvre a traversé une histoire mouvementée et a subi une dizaine de déménagements, un long séjour en plein air, plusieurs campagnes de restaurations et un moulage. Le travail de restauration initié actuellement a pour but de redonner son éclat à cette œuvre exceptionnelle mais aussi de retrouver les traces de sa polychromie première.

La restauration a lieu sur place et la salle sera donc fermée au public jusqu’en novembre 2018. En effet, chaque pleurant pèse environ 350 kg et la dalle qu’ils supportent près d’une tonne ! ?

? Do you know the stunning tomb of Philippe Pot?

Eight hooded pleurants (or weepers) are represented as pallbearers carrying a slab with a recumbent statue. It is Philippe Pot, dressed as a knight. Life-size, the tomb from the 15th century creates the impression of a real funeral cortege.
This work has gone through an eventful history and has undergone a dozen moves, a long stay in the open air, several restoration campaigns and a moulding. The restoration work currently under way aims to restore the brilliance of this exceptional and to find traces of its original polychromy.

The restoration takes place on the spot and the room will be closed to the public until November 2018. Indeed, each pleurant weighs about 350 kg and the slab they support almost a ton! ?
